Requirements
The participant must be between 18 and 30.
Intermediate level of English must be demonstrable through a telephone interview.
Gratification
Usually the working day is about 40 hours a week, for example, so the participant must be prepared to work 8 hours a day and sometimes overtime, with at least one day off a week.
The minimum voluntary bonus is £ 4.98/ hour (gross) for young people between 18 and 20 years and 6.08/ hour (gross) for people of 21 years old and more. You will receive this amount every week or every 15 days and always on time. Most companies offer a greater bonus instead of the stipulated minimum. From the salary should be deducted the price of lodging, meals and taxes (17.5%) and Social Security (5%).
The participant has to pay a deposit of 200 € and send a copy of proof of payment to PUROMUNDO. This Deposit will be deducted from the final price which must be paid before the beginning of the practices.
Accommodation and subsistence
The participants will stay in the hotel or a staff accommodation will be provided, usually it is a shared room with another staff member. The price of accommodation will be deducted from the participants’ monthly stipend: some hotels do not discount anything, others can deduct between £ 20 and £ 50 a week, depending on the type of accommodation and whether meals are included or not.
Dates
The program is available all year round, except from the second week of December to late January.
To start working from September and if you want a long stay, you should keep in mind that during the months October, November and December most hotels require industry experience and a level of English, since the Christmas season is high season and they need a qualified staff. However, these conditions are more flexible from February but remember that a demonstrable level of English is required.
Please also note that it is not usual to complete the program in the months of May, June, July and August, as this is when the hotels are busy and prefer to hire more staff until the end of the summer reason.
It’s not the typical English summer
Although English seems the main attraction for joining this program, work experience at the end will be more important than the English practiced.
Obviously your mission will not be to direct the hotel but in Spain exists a saying : “Those who were chefs before to become priests know what happens in the kitchen”, so you can be sure it will be a very interesting experience and you will learn how a hotel works and how British people work.
In addition, in spite of your filed or your profession, your curriculum will be appreciated for the ability you had to manage in a different working environment, and for your determination to learn to work.
After confirming the place of training the participant will receive a detailed plan of tasks to do during the day.
You will like it if…
If you want to work and learn at the same time, if you want to practice English in an environment where you have to speak English, if you think it’s time to slave away, if you want to know English society from a privileged point of view and if you have some British phlegm.
You will not like it if…
If you’re thinking it’s a holiday, if you have little patience and you are in a bad mood when the sky is gray.
